The Cistercian route links the Monasteries of Santes Creus, Poblet and Vallbona
de les Monges. The Poblet monastery was declared as world heritage in 1991 and
is the largest Cistercian habitat in Europe. Vallbona de les Monges has been renowned
for its uninterrupted feminine monastic activity for more than 800 years. The
special features of the monasteries ensure that their exploration becomes a
fascinating discovery of the past.
This route on horseback enables you to enjoy the fantastic countryside and views
of the municipalities; Valls, Montblanc and Tarrega. The route crosses rivers,
mountain ranges, vineyards, cornfields and woods, as well as the cultural visits
to the monasteries and the medieval town of Montblanc.
You can also enjoy the local cuisine, talk to the locals and really enjoy the
rural life of the area. There is a choice of accommodation – Hotels, Youth
Hostels, Campsites and old country farmhouses. Meals will be in local
restaurants with wine included!
This is a route to be done on horseback! No traffic, no queues, no noise except
from the sound of your horses’ hooves on the tracks. You do not have to be an
expert horseman either, as the terrain is not difficult, only spectacular! Our
horses come in all shapes and sizes and are completely reliable.
