The day trips take you across the vineyards and woodlands of the river Gaià valley where you will visit small country villages, castles and spectacular wine cellars of modernist architecture, known as “the wine cathedrals”, where you can see the process of wine making and taste the wines and cavas. You will enjoy a hearty lunch in local restaurants or a gourmet picnic, where you can try the specialties of the region and local wines. You can also book the day trips without accommodation if you are already staying in the area.
Itinerary
Day 1 - Arrival. By own arrangements or transfer from Barcelona or Reus airport to your hotel. Day 2 - Montferri. You will ride through beautiful countryside of woodlands and vineyards towards Montferri, a tiny village with 200 inhabitants near the Gaià river. On the way you will visit the Montserrat Sanctuary, built in 1926, by architect Josep Maria Jujol, a disciple of Gaudí. A picnic awaits you beneath the pine trees of the Loreto sanctuary in Bràfim, where after lunch you can taste the wine at the local cooperative. Day 3 - Santes Creus. After a 3 hour ride through the vineyards and river of the Gaià valley you will reach Santes Creus, a fascinating village built around the famous Cistercian Santes Creus Monastery dating back to the 12th century. Enjoy a gourmet picnic by the river. Day 4 – Nulles. After a joyful ride through the vineyards you will reach the rural village Vilabella. You will then continue to the Nulles cooperative. A splendid example of one of the “wine cathedrals”, built in 1915, by the architect Cesar Martinell. After a guided visit and wine-tasting you can tuck into a hearty picnic lunch before returning to Rodonyà. Day 5 – Free day Today allows you and the horses to rest. A trip to the beach, Barcelona, Tarragona or Universal Studios in Salou are just a few suggestions of things to do in the area. Day 6 – Vila-rodona and castles. Today takes us to the medieval village of Vila-rodona, where we can admire the castle dating back to the tenth century. Visit the rural museum and the “wine cathedral”, another example of the famous architect Cesar Martinell, where we can once again taste the wines. Once we have quenched our thirst we will find a barbeque of delicious meats and vegetables awaiting us. The return journey will take us along the river Gaia, through the picturesque village of Vilardida and back to Rodonya Day 7 - Rodonyà. Today you will visit the surrounding area of Rodonyà. After a ride through the vineyards, almond and olive groves, accompanied by a few interesting legends of highway men, you will visit the ancient centre of Rodonyà, with its medieval castle and 18th century church. From here you will enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding vineyards. After yet more wine tasting in the Vinya Janine cellars you will return to the riding centre where a barbeque will await you with a Spanish dressage show. Day 8 - Departure. After breakfast departure by own arrangement or transfer to Barcelona or Reus airport.

Riding experience:
|
Novice. In order to participate in one of these rides it is necessary that you are capable of applying basic aids, are comfortable and in control at the walk, moderate length posting trots and short canters, and that you can mount and dismount without assistance.

Horse care:

We find it important that our guests ‘bond’ with their horse during the trail by helping with grooming and feeding (not obligatory).

Insurance
|
All riders must take out holiday and accident insurance prior to commencing the ride. Spain has a National Health Service and it is recommended that participants from other E.E.C. countries obtain a form E111 from their local post office which will entitle them to medical service while in Spain.
